Otterhounds get along well with other dogs as well as cats. Otterhounds can be stubborn and difficult to train. Otterhounds are best suited to a home with a yard and do okay as outside dogs. Otterhounds need plenty of exercise and this breed especially enjoys swimming.

The title Master of Otterhounds has been bestowed on a number of English monarchs. Otterhounds have become quite rare due to the decline in numbers of otters. There are only about 1,000 Otterhounds in the world.
